HistoryThe Florida Association for Volunteer Resource Management (FAVRM) began in 1983 as the Florida Association of Volunteer Centers, Inc. (FAVC). The organization was created to strengthen volunteerism in Florida by providing networking, professional development, and training opportunities for leaders responsible for managing volunteers and volunteer programs. For many years, FAVC supported volunteer centers across the state through collaboration, education, and shared resources. As the field of volunteer management evolved, the role of volunteer centers shifted from primarily information and referral services toward more direct service models. This change highlighted the need for broader professional development and networking opportunities for volunteer resource managers and organizational leaders. In response, the association expanded its mission to serve a wider community of professionals engaged in volunteer management. In 2010, the organization adopted its current name, the Florida Association for Volunteer Resource Management (FAVRM), reflecting its broader focus on supporting volunteer resource managers across many types of nonprofit and public organizations. FAVRM regularly hosted forums and gatherings around Florida that brought volunteer managers together to share ideas, learn from experts in the field, and strengthen their skills in managing volunteer programs. Each forum focused on a specific theme and provided opportunities for collaboration and professional growth. Interest in in-person gatherings began to decline around 2019, and following the COVID-19 pandemic, FAVRM has been inactive since 2022.An effort is underway to revitalize the organization.
